Rocket Knight (ロケットナイト roketto naito) is a video game franchise created and developed by Konami, starring an anthropomorphic opossum with the name of Sparkster who's the main protagonist within the Series.
The games are classical side scrolling platformers, and the Series spawned 2 Sequels and 1 Spin-Off Title. Its setting is a mixture between medieval, fantasy, and steampunk elements.

The first installment of the Franchise, created for the Sega MegaDrive/Genesis in 1993.
Sparkster had to stop the war between Devotindos Empire and Zephyrus, while rescuing the kingdom's princess, Sherry, from the clutches of Emperor Devligus Devotindos and his rival, Axel Gear, who tried to reactivate the Pig Star.

The direct Sequel to Rocket Knight Adventures, which was released in 1994 for the Sega MegaDrive/Genesis.
The game takes place 5 years after the events of the first game.
Sparkster had to save Cherry, princess Sherry's younger cousin, from King Gedol's imprisonment in Gedol Empire. Axel Gear also returned as the right hand of Gedol.

The game takes place some unknown years after the events of the first game, and was set in a different country called Eginasem.
Sparkster had to save princess Flora, and stop Generalissimo Lioness and Axel Gear from conquering the Kingdom of Eginasem.
Rocket Knight[]
The late Sequel to the MegaDrive/Genesis timeline, which was released in 2010 for Steam, PS3, and Xbox Live Arcade. It was also the first title to run in 2.5D graphics. It is often mislabeled as a reboot to the Franchise.
The game takes place 15 years after the war between Gedol Empire and the Kingdom of Zephyrus.
After settling down as a Rocket Knight, Sparkster witnessed the Kingdom of Zephyrus being attacked by the Mountain Wolves of the Wolf Kingdom, which is led by King Ulfgar. Unable to ignore this, he grabs his armor once again to save Zephyrus from the sudden attack, while dealing with General Sweinhart and Axel Gear at the same time.
